The Emmanuel Nwobodo’s led Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) administration has, through its department of Policies, Programs and Projects, cried out against the rampant hacking of people’s Whatsapp accounts by some fraudsters.
In a press release on Thursday 15th of November, 2019, at the 15th NAMLAS Conference holding at Bayero University, Kano, and made available to TheNigeraLawyer (TNL), Umoh Edet, the National Director, condemns in totality such criminality. He cited as an example the unfortunate news of the hacking of a WhatsApp Account Number some days back belonging to one Balogun Sofiyullahi, a final year law student of ABU, Zaria who was one time a Justice of the ABU Court of Appeal and current Head of ABU Law Clinic.
Amina Bakare, representing the Northwest Zonal Directorate confirmed the unfortunate incident. A lot of people were duped including one call to bar aspirant who transferred his call to bar screening fee to the fraudsters. She added that the Directorate is deeply pained by the turn of events.
“when the information reached us, the DOPPP started work on it immediately by investigating it and right now the culprit is known. We are really pained by the turn of events and we are actually pushing matters…” Amina said
The Directorate insisted that this crime must not end up as part of our crime statistics. It not only condemns in the strongest terms the reprehensible hacking of Whatsapp accounts, but calls on the law enforcement agencies to fish out and met out justice to the criminals who hack accounts.
