A Nigerian Lawyer, Kabuk Alams has taken to his Twitter handle to express the likelihood of leaving the legal profession in order to venture into Taxi job.

This is after he earned the sum of N10,000 in a day after doing a taxi work, noting that the profitability of the business is making him consider leaving the Law profession.

He expressed this in a Tweet which was sighted by Legaldeskng as follows:

“So, I went out to find urgent 2k doing taxi again today. My target was 10k and I made it. This is roughly 9k. I used 1k to buy 2 sticks of suya and 1 bullet to use and calm down… Be like say I go soon leave lawyer work o.”

Kabuk Alams graduated from the University of Jos in 2016 and attended Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus.

A photo sighted shows that he is a lawyer who practices with Rich C. Nwaiwu & Co, Barristers, Solicitors & Notaries Public of No. 30 Shendam Street, Plateau, Jos, Nigeria.

However, reactions have trailed what this Lawyer did as some Legal Practitioners have suggested that his action contravenes the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2007.

Particularly, it has been noted that the act of doing a taxi work contravenes Rule 7 (1) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, which provides:

“Unless permitted by the General Council of the Bar (hereinafter referred to as the “Bar Council”), a lawyer shall not practice as a legal practitioner at the same time as he practices any other profession.”

Meanwhile, it is no longer news that the impact of the Corona Virus pandemic is taking tolls on young Lawyers in the country, particularly those considered to be vulnerable.
