The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) – Olumide Akpata, attended the law week of the NBA Ibadan branch, which took place in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Opening ceremony took place on the 9th day of December 2020 and had in attendance, The Governor of Oyo State – H.E. Seyi Makinde (represented by the Hon. Attorney-General – Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo), Justice Olukayode Ariwola (JSC) (represented by Hon. Mr. Justice Abbass) the Chief Judge of Oyo State- Hon Justice M.L. Abimbola, Chairman NBA Ibadan – Oluyinka Esan, Prof Adeolu Akande – the Guest lecturer and a host of eminent legal practitioners.

During the course of the proceedings, at the opening ceremony, the NBA President reiterated the commitment of the NBA National leadership in addressing the welfare of members of the Nigerian Bar Association. He informed the noble gathering that the attention of the NBA leadership has been drawn to the social media video of a comedian pleading the cause of a young lawyer-Funke Giwa, stating that the bright young lawyer was not fortunate enough to have a decent livelihood. The NBA President then informed the gathering that a fact-finding committee headed by Mr. Tolu Aderemi, has been set up to meet with the said Funke Giwa and to report back their findings. The NBA President pointed out that the plight of the young lawyer brings to fore several welfare challenges that must be addressed both at the Branch and National levels of the Nigerian Bar Association.
