The news making around that Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) has earmarked 37 estates for demolition is misleading, as same was reported in the year 2013.

Thebridgenewsng had earlier published the news on 3rd day of March, 2020 which was referenced by LEGALDESKNG (LDN), in the latter’s publication dated 17th day of September 2020.

Findings as reported by Icirnigeria shows that the news was published in October 2012 after about 500 buildings were demolished by the FCTA for infracting the Abuja Master Plan.

Mukhtar Galadima, the FCTA Director of Development Control stated that it is not a correct report for not being a recent event.

“It is fake news. This is something that happened in 2013. It is false information.” He said.

Meanwhile, Premium Times had reported in July, 2020 that the FCTA had suspended the processing and issuance of building plan approvals for Lugbe and all on-going developments in the district.

Besides, Mukhtar Galadima was said to have informed “the general public that the Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, is not granting building plan approval for developments in Lugbe due to the ongoing harmonisation exercise of the district, in line with the Abuja Master Plan.

“Consequently, any developer found to be developing any property within Lugbe district without the requisite building approvals from the department is doing so at his or her own risk.

“The department will enforce appropriate sanctions, in accordance with the provisions of the law, including demolition of such illegal properties.”

It would be recalled that a news had earlier on been published stating that AMMC was set to demolish 37 estates in FCT Abuja with a view to actualizing the plan of the Federal Government to build a centenary village.

By this, members of the public are urged to disregard the said news having occurred in 2013 as opposed to its recent publication.
