Chairman of the NBA Lagos branch, mr Yemi Akangbe has described the purported amendment of the rules of professional conduct by the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami SAN as dead on arrival as he does not possess such powers to unilaterally make or amend the RPC which is the exclusive preserve of the General Council of the Bar.

Speaking at the monthly branch meeting of the association held today in Lagos, Mr Akangbe called on lawyers to resist this act of impunity as the profession cannot afford to fold its hands and watch anti democratic tendencies and erosion of the rule of law take hold of the Bar.

” impunity is gradually creeping into our cherished profession and as lawyers we must rise up insist on the adherence to the rule of law at all times. I implore us all to speak and oppose this action of the AGF which amounts to impunity while we await the direction of the National Executive of the NBA on the proper way to challenge this action” Mr Akangbe said.
