In Nigeria, it is an offence to prohibit a person from marrying anyone of their choice on the basis of their real or perceived HIV status.
However, their partners consent must be obtained in a right frame of mind and he or she must be informed about his or her partner’s HIV status.
PENALTY
● N500,000 to N2,000,000 fine or
● Imprisonment for a period of one year or to both such fine and imprisonment.
