Abuja based Legal practitioner, Mr. A.A Samuel has said there was no clause or section in the guidelines to impair the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) from further investigating into the allegations he levelled against Mr. Kunle Edun in his petition.
Mr. Samuel was reacting to the Committee’s response to his petition.
According to him “it will be most unfortunate to say the least if the ECNBA gives us the impression that the committee lacks the moral rectitude & credibility to give our troubled and beloved Bar a free and fair election which we all crave for”
His reaction for reads “I have read the response of the ECNBA 2020 against the candidature of Mr. Kunle Edun
“After reading the reply and or response of the ECNBA to my follow up response to my petition against the candidacy of Kunle Edun Esq. I am gutted by the reply of the ECNBA, it is sad that our hope of getting it right and having a long last free and fair elections may almost be fading away gradually.
“The ECNBA we know is comprised of very erudite and respected learned silks and very senior members of the bar with integrity and proven track record of immense contributions to the legal profession and the promotion of the rule of law in Nigeria. It will be most unfortunate to say the least if the ECNBA gives us the impression that the committee lacks the moral rectitude & credibility to give our troubled and beloved Bar a free and fair election which we all crave for.
“I went in search of the purported guidelines which the ECNBA stated that by it my petition came late. In my search I discovered to my disappointment & disenchantment that no such clause or paragraph or section exists in the guidelines to impair the committee from further investigating into the allegations I levelled in my petition against Kunle Edun Esq. and his alleged presenting of false information to the ECNBA.
“However, if the guidelines does contain such timeline and by omission I did not avert my mind to it I take responsibility. Do not forget that he is on oath and any false information on oath to the committee is perjury.
“If the committee in its magnanimity deemed it fit to extend the guide lines on publication of voter list and even the date of elections, we can also pray the committee to do justice by simply asking Mr Kunle Edun to give your committee his letter of appointment where he was so coopted.
“Assuming but not conceding that he was appointed NEC member by A. B. Mahmud SAN administration ( which by now we all know he was not), he was not even qualified to run for PRO as he was not up to 2 years as a NEC member.
“Finally, I humbly and most respectfully once again urge this honourable committee to look at the merits of my protest letter and ask that Mr Kunle Edun furnishes this hallowed committee with the letter of appointment coopting him as a NEC member.”
