As the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress in Edo State gets messier, the party is also in deep trouble over the conduct of its primary election in Ondo State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejected the notice
given to it by the All Progressives Party (APC) with reference: APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/020/013 of the party’s intention to conduct her Ondo State Governorship primary scheduled for 20th day of July, 2020.

LEGALDESKNG learnt that, this was contained in a letter dated 22nd day of June, 2020 signed by INEC Secretary, Mrs. Rose Onaran-Anthony, which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.

“The Commission notes that your notice scheduling the conduct of APC Ondo State Governorship primary on 20 July, 2020 was signed by only the Acting National Secretary.”

Furthermore, INEC noted that the notice issued to it by APC which was signed by the Acting Party Secretary alone is against its standing regulations and guidelines for the Conduct of Primary.

“This is contrary to the provision of Article 4.4 of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Party Primaries which requires that such notices shall be jointly signed by the National Secretary of the political party.”

In this light, INEC, therefore, advised APC to do what is required of it by the above regulations and guidelines.

“Accordingly your party is advised to issue an appropriate notice for the conduct of its Ondo State Governorship Primary in line with relevant provisions of the Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Party Primaries.” It concluded.
