Some pro supporters of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has threatened to burn down Rivers State over an alleged plot by rival All Progressives Congress (APC) factions to dismiss the Minister from the party.
According to the spokesman of the group, it was alleged that there was an ongoing scheme by the Senator Magnus Abe-led camp of the APC in conjunction with the Executive Governor of the State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, to suspend and subsequently expel Amaechi from the party.
In a viral video, the spokesman of the group said:
“If they do anything to Amaechi, we are going to burn down Rivers. We are going to shut down every federal agency, every multinational company. We are going to destroy everything and put Rivers state in crisis.
“We are going to tell them that Amaechi is not a man they can toil with. We will make sure we die with any person who wants to die. Any person who wants to live we are going to live with him. We will not be alive to see them alive to do what they want to do to Amaechi.
“Either we all die together or forget about Rivers or we harmonise in peace. We Weill destroy everything in Rivers, face the consequences and nothing will happen.”
However, the minister has however cautioned them and dissociated himself from such threats, stating that he is a respecter of the rule of law.
In another development, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, in a statement dissociated Gov. Wike from their allegations and declared that the Rivers State Government is up to the task and charges all relevant security agencies to do the needful.
“Let us also make it very clear to all those purveyors of misleading and wild narrative, that Governor Wike, is neither involved in the crisis rocking the fractured APC in Rivers State, nor has any interest in the emergence or determination of the leadership of the party whatsoever.
“We also take great exception to the wild and dangerous threats and intimidation made against the Judiciary in Rivers State, in utterances that can best be described as grossly inciting, offensive, and derogatory and treasonable.
“The Rivers State Government hereby warns that it will come down hard on any trouble maker, who desires to foment trouble in the state.
“We want to use this opportunity to put the Inspector General of Police and all the security agencies on notice to live up to their responsibilities by taking prompt action on what is obviously a clear case of treason by a group whose leader is well known in the country.”
