The Presidential Task Force (PTF) has disclosed that rail transport would resume shortly after a domestic flight resumes operation.

The rail transport was suspended following the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the daily briefing by members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, the National Coordinator, Sani Aliyu said the rail transport would also commence as soon as the ban on inter-state travel is lifted.

Aliyu said the Task Force would work with the transportation ministry to ensure that the Nigerian Railway Corporation put measures in place to observe all its directives.

He said: “When the domestic flight starts, we would be reviewing the need for continued restrictions on interstate travels.

“We would be working with the federal ministry of transport to make sure that the necessary changes that the railways authorities need to apply in order to ensure physical distancing, reducing the number of passengers per carriage, wearing a face mask, measuring temperature are put in place.

“We know that they are aware of the directive but we will make sure that they are ready to resume.”
