The Governor of Katsina State has approved the recommendation of the National Judicial Council for the appointment of Safiya Badamasi, the first female Hausa Fulani Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as a judge of the state’s High Court.

The approval is contained in a letter made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL) signed by the Chief Judge and Chairman of Judicial Service Commission of the state, Hon. Justice M. D. Abubakar, NPOM dated 4th of May, 2020

“Following the recommendation of the National Judicial Court (Council) to His Excellency, Executive Governor of Katsina State, the Governor has in exercise of the powers conferred on him under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) appoint you a judge of Katsina State High Court of Justice as per the attached letter of appointment.” the letter reads.

The learned silk is expected to submit an acceptance letter to the Chairman of the state’s Judicial Service Commission and her swearing in is slated for 7th of May, 2020 and shall be accompanied by only one person to witness the swearing in because of the Covid-19 social distancing policy

“Your swearing is scheduled to be conducted on Thursday 7th May, 2020 by 02:00pm at the Council Chambers of Muhammadu Buhari (Government House). Due to the existing Executive on curtailing the spread of Covid-19 Pandemic, limiting social gathering and contacts you are allowed to come with only 1 family member to witness the occasion. You are expected to assemble at the Chief Judge’s Chambers by 1:00pm to proceed to the occasion please.”
