There is apprehension in Imo State, following the discovery of the dead body of a policeman in Owerri, the state capital.

The panic becomes heightened as the state was said to have recorded its first case of COVID -19. Our correspondent gathered that the corpse of the cop, identified as an inspector of police, was found lying in front Police Shell camp quarters opposite Alvaina Primary School in Owerri Municipal Council early yesterday.

The cause of death has not been established. But a police source said that the authorities were handling the remains cautiously because of the raging COVID -19 pandemic. When our correspondent visited the area, the remains were about to be evacuated by police medical team. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, said the cause of death was yet to be determined.
He, however, said that all those who came in contact with the body would be tested for possible COVID-19 infection. He added that the police which had commenced investigation into the cause of the death would reveal its findings as soon as it completed the probe.
