Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, stated that Bakori, from Katsina State, replaces Salman Garba Dogo, who has since been promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Bakori was, until his appointment, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Homicide at the Force Investigation Department, Abuja.

He was previously the Commander of the Bayelsa State Joint Task Force, Operation Doo Akpo, Yenagoa; Assistant Commissioner, SPU, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Assistant Commissioner, CID, Bayelsa State; Assistant Commissioner, CID, Rivers State; Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police; and Commanding Officer, 17 PMF, Akure.

The chairman of PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), has tasked the new Commissioner of Police with ensuring that peace prevails in the state.

He urged Bakori to quickly settle into the challenging role and focus on eradicating crime and criminality while safeguarding freedom of movement and security of enterprise.

DIG Argungu emphasised the importance of crime mapping to enable a targeted approach to policing in Kano, assuring that PSC will monitor his progress and provide support for his success.

PSC’s approval has been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation in a letter signed by the secretary to the commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
