Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has addressed recent controversy surrounding his comments about Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election. The APC spokesperson is facing accusations of issuing a death threat toward Obi and his family, stemming from remarks he made after Obi’s New Year message.
Obi claimed that Morka’s comments had incited threats to his life. During an interview, Morka had said, “Obi has crossed the line so many times,” and added, “whatever he has coming to him, he should manage it.” These remarks were seen by many, including Obi, as a veiled threat.
However, Morka clarified his words on a tv show. He strongly denied any intention to threaten Obi, explaining that his comment was not about life-threatening violence, but rather a response to Obi’s repeated falsehoods.
Morka defended his position, stating that Obi’s controversial statements—such as being labeled a “voodoo economist” and “prophet of doom”—were entirely warranted due to Obi’s habit of distorting the truth. “If Peter Obi was called a prophet of doom or a voodoo economist, he has it coming to him,” Morka said, emphasizing that his words were only meant to hold Obi accountable for what he sees as a pattern of falsehoods.
Furthermore, Morka called on Obi to provide evidence for his claims of receiving death threats. “He who alleges must prove. If Peter Obi says anyone threatened him, he must show evidence. If threats were made against him, the law enforcement system should be investigating it, not having this conversation in a TV studio,” Morka insisted.
In conclusion, the APC chieftain reaffirmed that he never intended to threaten Obi, and his comments were simply a reaction to Obi’s public statements, which Morka believes often cross the line from political discourse into dishonesty.
