Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has named the newly-constructed High Court Complex after his predecessor, the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Aiyedatiwa, speaking during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the new High Court Complex (Judiciary Village), described the project as a historic milestone for the state.
The contract for the construction of the complex, to be known as the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Judiciary Complex, is expected to be completed within 48 weeks.

Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing justice and ensuring the welfare of judicial officers in the state.

Explaining the decision to name the complex after Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa stated that the project had been conceived during the tenure of the late governor.

“This is a milestone moment as we flag off the construction of a new High Court Complex in our state. Since Ondo State’s creation in 1976, no effort has been made to provide a modern facility for the administration of justice,” Aiyedatiwa said.

“Today, we are not just making history, but also fulfilling a long-held dream of the judiciary. This development is the realization of the vision of our late leader, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. It was his desire to provide a state-of-the-art High Court Complex to enhance judicial functions and the welfare of our judiciary. Naming this project the Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex is a fitting way to immortalize his legacy.”

The governor clarified that the project was not initiated due to the state’s financial buoyancy, but rather due to a commitment to providing a good working environment with modern facilities that would enhance the welfare of judicial officers, workers, and individuals seeking justice. He emphasized that the ultimate goal was to expedite the dispensation of justice in Ondo State.

The complex will include a ceremonial court, modular courts, a registry, a library, exhibition halls, a utility building, and modern parking facilities.
“It is designed to create a conducive environment for justice and to speed up the dispensation of justice in Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa added.
The 13-hectare project has been awarded to Westfield Global Construction Company, with a completion timeline of 48 weeks.

Aiyedatiwa also appealed for continued support and cooperation from the people of Ondo State, vowing to prioritize impactful and purposeful governance.

The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Hon. Justice Olusegun Odusola, praised the initiative, calling it a landmark achievement.

“This complex will elevate the judiciary to global standards with modern facilities that can compete with any judicial system in the world. The governor’s commitment to this project reflects his dedication to peace, justice, and the overall development of Ondo State,” Odusola said.

The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Akinwumi Sowore, stated that the Judiciary Village was designed to ensure justice is served in an environment that promotes efficiency. It will house 14 courtrooms, a registry, a library, an exhibition hall, a utility building, and ample parking spaces.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, commended the Governor’s commitment to advancing the rule of law.

“In just one year, Governor Aiyedatiwa has laid a solid foundation for the growth of Ondo State’s judicial infrastructure. This project is a testament to his promise of accessible justice and his belief in the judiciary as a pillar of democracy,” Ajulo said.
