Authorities of Nigeria Police Force zone six have confirmed the arrest and detention of one Mr. JoePaul Obi Osowo, a member of ‘Obedient Movement’.

Osowo is a journalist/radio host, human rights activist, and government critic.

Social media commentators had accused the police authorities of wrongfully detaining Osowo.

But in a statement released Friday night confirming Osowo’s detention in their facility, Zone Six PRO, SP Nelson Okpabi said the suspect had obtained money under false pretense and had committed other frauds, as alleged by his cousin in a petition.

“For the records, Mr. Osowo is currently in lawful custody at the Zone 6 Police facility following a court order.

“His detention relates to an ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud and obtaining money under false pretenses, as contained in a petition submitted by his cousin.

“Mr. Osowo has been duly served with the court charge sheet in the presence of his legal counsel and is scheduled to appear before the court on Monday, 16th December 2024,” he said.

Okpabi reaffirmed police commitment to professional and ethical standards in handling the case, maintaining that investigation was being conducted transparently and in accordance with due process.

He advised members of the public to disregard the misleading and unfounded claims circulating online, saying they remained resolute in upholding justice and ensuring fairness in all their operations.
