The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered counterfeit medicines during a raid at Tyre Village, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State.

In a statement shared via its verified X handle on Thursday, NAFDAC announced that the operation resulted in the seizure of fake pharmaceuticals. Among the counterfeit medicines seized were Amoxicillin 500mg, Ampicloxa capsules 500mg, and packaging materials for Augmentin capsules 625mg.

NAFDAC further confirmed that the facility involved in the illegal trade has been placed on hold, and all counterfeit products have been evacuated. The agency estimated the value of the seized fake medicines at over N300 million, warning that these drugs pose significant health risks, including treatment failure, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to their unknown compositions.

The agency has invited the suspect for questioning, and investigations into the matter are ongoing. NAFDAC also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities to its nearest office.
