On Friday 8th of November, 2024, at the 2024 Opening of the Legal Year for the Anambra State Judiciary, I had the honor of joining our colleagues where I delivered an address.Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN Advocates for Technology-Driven Justice System at Anambra Judiciary Legal Year Opening

In my address, I emphasized our collective commitment to upholding a judiciary that remains firm in delivering justice fairly and without compromise. In challenging times, we must stay steadfast in this duty, as justice remains the foundation of every thriving society.

I urged the Anambra State Judiciary to embrace technology as an essential tool for improving access to justice. By adopting digital solutions, we can make the judicial process more efficient, transparent, and accessible to all citizens, ensuring that justice is both timely and fair. In today’s digital world, technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity for an effective and sustainable justice system.

I also called upon the government to prioritize the welfare of judicial staff, stressing that their support is integral to an effective justice delivery system. In light of recent security concerns, I highlighted the urgent need to reopen the Court of Appeal and Federal High Court in the state, closed due to security threats. Access to these courts is vital, and securing our judicial staff and court facilities must be a top priority.

I urged the Chief Judge of Anambra State, along with heads of courts, to ensure regular visits to detention facilities and prisons across the state, in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. This measure is crucial for reviewing the status of detainees, facilitating the immediate release of those held without just cause, and preventing undue incarceration.

As we embark on this new legal year, I extend my best wishes to the Anambra State Judiciary. May this year be filled with progress, resilience, and impactful service, reflecting our commitment to a just, fair, and accessible judicial system.
