The Presidency has dismissed allegations that President Bola Tinubu is favoring his home region, the Southwest, in appointing security agency heads.

The Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare clarified the administration’s position on Sunday, sharing data to support his statement.

In a post on his official X account, Dare shared a table listing the heads of 20 security agencies and their respective regions.

The move followed public backlash over Tinubu’s recent appointment of Olufemi Oloyede as acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), filling in for Taoreed Lagbaja, who is on medical leave.

Many Nigerians on social media accused the president of concentrating security leadership roles in the Southwest.

Dare, however, presented data showing the North-west has the most appointments, with eight security chiefs, followed by the Southwest with five.

According to him, the North-central has four appointees, while three are from the North-east.

He explained that, this distribution counters claims of regional favoritism, underscoring the administration’s commitment to a balanced and inclusive approach in national security leadership.
