A cemetery worker and several accomplices have been arrested in the Agege area of Lagos after they were found in possession of five human skulls.
The suspects were apprehended on Sunday by local security operatives in the Murikaz area of the cemetery. They have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
An eyewitness, Mr. Isiaka Amosu, informed NAN that the suspects had allegedly collaborated with a cemetery attendant named Ismaila to obtain body parts for illegal purposes.
“The local security operatives noticed a suspicious bag placed on a fence at the back of the cemetery,” Amosu recounted.“Curious about the bag, they decided to monitor who might come to retrieve it.”
After a few minutes, two men approached and picked up the bag. The security operatives, along with some residents, confronted the suspects and demanded they open it.
“Initially, the suspects claimed the bag contained only leaves, but after further insistence, they opened it to reveal another bag containing five severed human skulls,” he said.
The suspects confessed to receiving assistance from the cemetery worker, who allegedly conspired with them for financial gain.
Amosu noted that this same worker had been caught with a human head about six months ago and had temporarily left the area.
The suspects are now in the custody of the Isokoko Police Station for further investigation.
