The case involving a Jigawa State Commissioner and an official of the Kano State Hisbah Command has taken a new turn after the Islamic police denied all earlier video and audio clips implicating the commissioner in an alleged illicit affair with a married woman in Kano.
Reports indicate that the Hisbah Commander in charge of the Yankaba area in Kano City, Malam Aliyu Usman, has denounced the voice recording circulating on social media, which allegedly implicates Hon. Auwal Sankara in an affair with a married woman. Usman described the audio as fake.
According to the Yankaba Hisbah Commander, they received a complaint from the husband of the woman in question.
He and some personnel acted on the complaint, and after conducting an investigation, they found the woman inside a car, while Hon. Auwal Sankara, the owner of the house, was seen walking towards the gate along with the gateman.
Malam Aliyu Usman dismissed the rumour, clarifying his role in the case and refuting the audio clip attributed to him.
He explained, “I am a junior officer, I have no right to talk, reveal, or give a report to any person, especially the media, with regard to our operations.
“All our reports are submitted to our boss, Malam Mujahid, so I wonder where the audio clip credited to me came from.”
On the legal side, the woman’s lawyer, Barrister Rabiu Shuaibu Abdullahi, stated that the case had been presented before the court, with his client being the second defendant in the matter.
Barrister Rabiu elaborated that the court had directed the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter, adding that they were satisfied with the order.
The defence counsel further explained that the couple had been facing domestic crises for years, with the complainant (the husband) allegedly using a gun to terrorise his wife during disagreements.
“My client has a restaurant at Lamido Crescent, which is popular. People often call her to place food orders, but due to the family crisis, the husband has been trailing and tracking her movements with a tracker for reasons other than persecution,” Barrister Rabiu said.
The case is currently under investigation by the Kano State CID. Meanwhile, the embattled Commissioner, Hon. Auwal Danladi Sankara, has vowed to pursue the case to a logical conclusion, stating his intention to clear his name and protect the reputation of his family.
