The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed condolences to the Government and people of Jigawa State following the tragic death of over 140 individuals in a tanker explosion that occurred on Tuesday.

The explosion rocked the Majia community in Taura Local Government Area, causing widespread chaos and leaving several others injured. While the Jigawa State Police reported on Wednesday that 90 people had died, eyewitness accounts indicate that more than 140 victims were buried later that same day.
In response to the tragedy, the IGP issued a statement through the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urging motorists to adhere strictly to safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.
The IGP also commended the swift intervention of police officers and emergency responders, who worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire, evacuate victims, and restore order in the affected area.

While praying for the repose of the deceased, the IGP reassured the public of ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of oil scooping and other hazardous activities.
