The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering rural women, particularly with the 2024 Rural Women’s Day approaching. Professor Simon Yalams, Commissioner for Agriculture, made this pledge while receiving the UN Women Country representative, emphasizing the state’s dedication to unlocking rural women’s potential for self-reliance.

The Bauchi government has already implemented various programs benefiting rural women, demonstrating its political will and dedication to rural development. These initiatives have positively impacted the lives of rural women in the state. Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration has been instrumental in driving these changes.

Key areas of focus include affirmative procurement for entrepreneur women, gender representative budgeting and equal opportunity. The UN Women has carried out several programs in the past two years, including cash transfers in partnership with the Federation of Muslim Women of Nigeria, significantly impacting rural women’s lives.

The collaboration between Bauchi State Government and UN Women aims to promote rural women’s economic empowerment, social development and community engagement. This partnership is crucial for achieving the goals of the 2024 International Rural Women’s Day, which highlights rural women’s roles in community development.
