Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, has once again declined to clear the air regarding the controversy surrounding her National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) certificate. Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, Musawa avoided directly addressing the issue, asserting that she wouldn’t be distracted by the ongoing debate.

The controversy emerged after Musawa failed to present evidence of completing the mandatory NYSC program during her Senate screening, despite being nominated by President Bola Tinubu. Her confirmation in 2023 sparked public backlash, with some accusing her of bypassing the requirement. Legal action was taken, but in April 2024, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the case, citing that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to pursue it.

Addressing the situation after a year in office, Musawa remained vague, stating, “I don’t know what you’ve heard, but there have been many different versions of the story. The fact that I’m here shows I didn’t do anything wrong.” She added that social media had spread various accounts and promised to share her side of the story at some point.

Musawa, hinting at her experience with the NYSC, remarked, “I’ve probably done more NYSC than you. I’ve done at least two NYSCs in my life.”
