The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded the immediate sacking and prosecution of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Liminted (NNPCL), Mr. Mele Kyari, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engineer Farouk Ahmed, for alleged conspiracy aimed at further impoverishing Nigerians.

The students union made the demand on Saturday after its emergency meeting convened to review the state of the nation as it relates to the burning contemporary issue bedevilling the country, especially the issue of insecurity and the nationwide scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as fuel.

NANS said that its demand came from exhaustive deliberations it had on the negative impact of the economic policies of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

In a statement issued by its National Vice President, Comrade Muhammed Y. Sabo, NANS said its resolve to demand for the sacking of Kyari and Ahmed “is anchored on our unmitigated disappointment in their actions so far and the crystal clear fact that they are engaged in the conspiracy to undermine the welfare and economic wellbeing of Nigerian Students and the citizens at large.”

Sabo further said “NANS also has it on good authority that Mele Kyari and Engr. Farouk Ahmed are staunch agents of Bretton Woods Institutions (IMF and World Bank) and they are not in any way pretending to implement the policies of their pay masters, which is at the detriment of the economic interest of the Nigerian citizens.”

According to NANS, “Such policies as pushed by the IMF and World Bank are dirty to public acceptance and have not in any way brought about development in any part of the world except benefiting few of its promoters at the expense of the generality of citizens.

“No wonder, Mele Kyari and Engr. Farouk Ahmed are also working hard and hellbent on sabotaging the Dangote Refinery because it serves the interest of these neocolonial institutions.

“NANS also warned President Bola Tinubu to stop taking Nigerians for a ride by testing their patience, because he should know that his administration’s draconian policies and inhuman decisions has made him lose the goodwill and the support of all well meaning Nigerians.

“And the only way to begin to regain the trust of Nigerians citizens is by reversing those inhuman policies and by firing those corrupt individuals who have made life difficult for the ordinary Nigerian citizens.

“Finally, we are putting the federal government on notice that if within a week these draconian policies are not reversed and the individuals responsible for implementing them are not fired, then NANS would collaborate with other Civil Society organizations to launch a mother of all revolutionary protests across the country in order reclaim our country from vultures and economic vampires.”
