The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by President Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau OON, SAN, has withdrawn the membership of former NBA Vice President Steve Abar Esq from the NBA NEC.
The decision was made during a pre-Annual General Conference (AGC) meeting held yesterday at the Nigerian Law School hall in Lagos.
The NBA President informed the NEC that despite Abar’s attendance at the June NEC meeting where a resolution was passed prohibiting members from supporting or promoting the newly formed Nigerian Law Society (NLS), Abar had accepted the position of National Secretary of the NLS. Maikyau emphasized that Abar’s actions were in direct violation of the NBA’s resolution, which he had neither opposed nor objected to during the June meeting.
The NBA NEC resolved to revoke all privileges associated with Abars membership in the NBA NEC and withdrew his membership.
