The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kaduna State chapter, has declared a three days mourning period from tomorrow, Monday 19th August 2024, to Wednesday 21st August, 2024, over the death of a journalist, Comrade Jacob Haruna Zango, who passed on in active service.
A statement in Kaduna issued by the Council Chairman, Comrade Asmau Yawo Halilu and the Secretary, Comrade Gambo Santos Sanga, described Zango’s death as devastating, adding that it is a huge loss to the Council.
The statement explained that the national union considered his invaluable sacrifices for the growth and development of the NUJ at both state and national levels.
It described Zango as a quintessential gentleman that stood for the truth, equity, justice and fair play among practicing journalists, and prayed for God Almighty to grant him eternal rest, and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
It enjoined media practitioners in Kaduna State to close ranks and support each other, especially in the areas of human needs, stressing that Late Haruna Zango would be greatly missed for his humility and respect for all and sundry.
Late Comrade Jacob Haruna Zango passed unto glory last Thursday at the age of 56 in Kafanchan the administrative Headquarters of Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State after a brief illness.
Until his death Zango was a News Editor with the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) Kafanchan Sub-Station.
Late Zango was also a former two term Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council.
He was married to a wife, and had four children.
He will be buried on 23rd August 2024 at his hometown in Uruhobo (Abuyab) of Zangon-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State after a Christian wake-keep service on Thursday at the Triumphant Baptist Church, Maraban-Rido in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.
