The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday appealed to the people of Esanland, who make up the Edo Central Senatorial District, to support and vote for him in the September 21st governorship election, declaring that the APC has solutions to the people’s problems.

Okpebholo, who was accompanied by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Osagie Ize-Iyamu , and other top party leaders, made the appeal during the Edo Central Senatorial APC flag-off campaign in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North East local government area.

Okpebholo said that he is the best man for the job because of his vast experience as a federal lawmaker and assured that, when voted governor, he would change the narratives of governance for the betterment of the people.

The APC governorship candidate lamented that the current debt profile of the state was over N573 billion from the inherited N43 billion.

He also alleged that the high-level corruption in the Obaseki-led government was unprecedented.
Okpebholo called on the people of the state not to allow the looting of public funds to continue with Obaseki’s third-term agenda through his godson, Asue Ighodalo.

“In Edo State, do you know the state’s debt profile at the moment is over N573 billion? That is what Edo State is owing now.
“During Adams Oshiomhole period, monthly allocation from the Federation Account was between N3.1 billion and N3.3 billion, but today, the allocation is between N11.1 billion, and the Edo State Government has nothing to show for it.’’

The APC governorship hopeful, also urged the electorate to use their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to punish the PDP and its candidate, saying “On September 21, 2024, it is just about a month from now, we will punish them with our votes. “Okpebholo said.

Also speaking at the rally, former governorship candidate of the party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu said the rally signals good things to come and the end of the PDP in the state and the government of Obaseki.

According to him, the Obaseki administration, in which Asue Ighodalo was the economic adviser, has plunged the state into debt.

According to him, Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma is poorly funded as against when Adams Oshiomhole was governor.
For his part, Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State and senator representing Edo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said he believes in Monday Okpebholo as a good candidate who will listen to the people’s yearning.

Oshiomhole said he is happy supporting Okpebholo because he has seen what he can do as a colleague and senator.
