The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has expressed shock and confusion regarding the omission of Favour Ofili’s name from the 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The AFN Technical Director, Samuel Onikeku, confirmed that Ofili was registered for the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events.
The AFN claims that Ofili’s name was included in the final list submitted to the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) for all three events, but it remains unclear how her name was omitted from the 100m event.

Ofili, in a series of tweets on Tuesday night, claimed she was disallowed from participating in the tournament.

Ofili expressed her disappointment and frustration, attributing her situation to the administrative failures of the AFN and NOC. She called on the responsible organisations to account for their actions, demanding to know why they failed to ensure her participation in the 100m event, despite her tireless efforts and dedication to qualifying for the Olympics over the past four years.
“It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 meters at this Olympic Games. I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter me. I have worked for 4 years to earn this opportunity. For what,” Ofili lamented.

Reacting to the allegations, the Technical Director of the AFN, Samuel Onikeku said via AFN Media, “We registered Ofili for the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay. We don’t know how her name got missing in the 100m. This is our stand as a federation.”

Favour Ofili secured her spot in the women’s 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics after an impressive performance at the AFN National Trials, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City last June.
