The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Yetunde Gbadebo, for allegedly attempting to sell her three-year-old daughter for N700,000 on Aladiye Street in Sagamu.

The incident occurred on July 25, 2024, at approximately 10:00 am.

According to a police source, Gbadebo was caught negotiating the price of the toddler with a 38-year-old man, Sunday None. A resident who witnessed the negotiation promptly reported the incident to the Sagamu Police Division, leading to the deployment of a team of detectives to the scene.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that during interrogation, Gbadebo denied the allegation, while None confessed to the crime. Odutola added that the case would be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department upon the conclusion of preliminary findings.

This incident follows a similar case in January 2024, where a 38-year-old woman, Chinyere Chukwu, was arrested in Anambra State for attempting to sell her two sons, aged nine and seven. Chukwu allegedly conspired with her eldest daughter, Joy Chukwu, 17, to sell the minors to Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, who posed as a buyer after receiving a tip-off.
