Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Friday, revealed that the third case of COVID-19 in the state, a 62 – year – old United Kingdom returnee, has tested negative twice and would be discharged this evening.

The Governor revealed this during a press conference addressed at his Iperu residence in Ikenne Local Government Area of the State.

It will be recalled that the returnee was tested positive about 10 day ago and he had since been isolated at a facility within the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

The Governor further revealed that a total of 12 Ventilators have been procured by the State in addition to to others donated by the General Oversea of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

Governor Abiodun also revealed that his administration was making efforts to isolate the floor housing 10 Ventilators within the 250 bed MTR hospital started by the immediate past administration.

According to him, the floor would be isolated from the construction site in order to be available for use.

The Governor further revealed that a state owned molecular laboratory, which he described as the first of it’s kind in the country, would be activated in the state within the next few days.

He said, “The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Ogun State is just four, out of which two have been discharged.

“As a matter of fact, just before I started this address, I was informed that the third person has just also tested negative twice, so, he will be discharged this evening.

“We have continues to prepare for the worst. We have also acquired 12 Ventilators, eight of which are combined ventilator and anesthesia machine and four of which are mobile Ventilators.

“We are very grateful to RCCG, in particular Baba Adeboye, because he has donated two Ventilators from the ICU to us and it means that we now have a total of 14 Ventilators in Ogun State. Twelve of which were acquired by self help while two were donated by Baba Adeboye.

“I would like to mention at this point in time that our 250 bed hospital has a 10 bed ICU that also come with 10 Ventilators, we are making spirited effort to launch tht floor that has the 10 bed ICU, we are hoping that in the next two to three weeks, that floor can be launched while isolating the rest of the hospital.

“That would provide an additional 10 Ventilators to what we already have, meaning that we have 24 Ventilators available to us in Ogun State.

“In the next few day, the state will have its own molecular laboratory, this laboratory, we have acquired and he would allow for us to be able to test for our patients right here in Ogun State.

“Presently, what we do is when we take the swabs, we sent the swabs to either Lagos or Ede which has recently come up.

“But the truth is that the result, the turn around for this test could take between three to five days and during that period the period would have been very apprehensive and also the chances of contact invection, and also the faster you are able to test, the faster you are able to identity those that are likely to be positive of negative.

“Hopefully by this weekend to Monday, our molecular laboratory which is probably the first state acquired laboratory in this country, not donated to the state should be in place, which will minimise the anxiety of screened patients and their families.”
