Ivory Coast came from behind to defeat Nigeria 2-1 in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles were looking to lift the trophy for the fourth time in their history.

And Jose Peseiro’s men took the lead in the first half through William Troost-Ekong’s header.

But the Ivorians levelled after the break through Franck Kessie’s header.

With a few minutes left in the game, Sebastien Haller flicked the ball past Stanley Nwabali to net what was the winning goal.

The victory completes a miraculous turnaround for the Elephants in the competition.

Ivory Coast looked set for an early exit when they lost their final group game 4-0 to Equatorial Guinea.

Although they sacked Jean-Louis Gasset as their coach, the team scraped through to the knockout phase eliminating Senegal, Mali and DR Congo on their way to the final.

The Elephants are now level with Nigeria on three continental titles.
