A 27-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Igwe, who allegedly threatened to kill his landlady and her children over house rent, was docked in an Akure Magistrate Court on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

The police charged Igwe with threat to kill and a breach of peace.

The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 6, 2023, at about 10:pm at his residence, Ala-Elefosan via Akure in the Akure Magisterial District.

He said that the defendant threatened to kill his landlady, one Deborah Sunday during a misunderstanding in the compound over house rent by chasing her and her children out of her house with a cutlass.

Oniyere also alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by his inhumane act.

The offence, he said, contravened Sections 86 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The prosecutor prayed for an adjournment to enable him to gather his witnesses and study the case file.

The defence counsel, G. Benard prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

The prosecutor did not oppose the defendant’s bail. But he urged the court to put him in bound so as to maintain peace and tranquility.

Magistrate Olusola Olujobi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Olujobi cautioned the defendant to be of good behaviour and maintain peace till the determination of the case.

She adjourned the case till January 28, 2024 for mention.
