The Abaomege community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, after 20 years without a king, elected Eze Livinus Oguta as its new traditional ruler over the weekend.

Newsmen reports that the first traditional ruler of the community, Gabrel Ineke, who ruled the community for many years, died in 2001. After his demise, the community was rocked by crises accompanied by the destruction of lives and properties.

The new monarch, an entrepreneur, was unanimously elected by delegates in line with the tradition and constitution of the community.

Eze Oguta, who spoke with newsmen shortly after his installation, vowed to reposition the community and ensure that the people enjoy relative peace and order.

He pledged to lead and serve the people without fear or favour and to discharge his duty selflessly.

“I am going to leverage the developmental strides of prominent indigenes, especially in the areas of agriculture and youth reorientation and boost commercial activities for the overall development of our community,” he said.

In a remark, the former permanent secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, Prof. Ifeanacho Umoke, said he was happy that bad politics was not allowed to desecrate the succession process by allowing the true successor to ascend the throne.

Others who spoke called on the people of Abaomege to support the new king and forgive one another for the peace and progress of the community.
