Newly elected President-General of Ughelli Descendants Union, UDU, Olorogun Samuel Akpemegi, has declared his administration’s zero tolerance for crimes and social vices, insisting that anything that could lead to insecurity in Ughelli kingdom would be tackled headlong.Ughelli Descendants Union

Akpemegi insisted that the peace, security and development of Ughelli kingdom are top priority of his administration.

Olorogun Akpemegi gave the assurance while receiving members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, who paid him a courtesy visit in his Ughelli office.

He said, “Right from day one, when I came in as the President-General, I had a meeting with our traditional ruler, His Majesty Dr. Evang. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi Ill, the security agencies and all organs of government within Ughelli kingdom on how to improve on the security situation of the kingdom.

“I am appealing to the Delta State government to see how it can collaborate with us to tighten the security situation of Ughelli kingdom and as well, assist the local government council in the providing primary schools within Ughelli kingdom with furniture and other essentials, to enable them to function effectively.”

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Sunday Apah, expressed gratitude to the President-General and the entire leadership of Ughelli Descendants Union for granting his members the audience.

He said, “This visit signifies the importance of fostering a strong relationship between our two organizations, working towards a common goal of promoting the welfare and development of our beloved Ughelli kingdom.

“As journalists, we are saddled with the responsibility of serving as the voice of the people. We are also entrusted with the responsibility of disseminating news and information that is accurate, unbiased and relevant to the public interest. We strive to uphold the principles of press freedom, transparency and accountability in our daily pursuit of truth and justice.

“The Ughelli Descendants Union, on the other hand, is a noble organization that represents the aspirations and concerns of the Ughelli community. It plays a pivotal role in preserving our cultural heritage, promoting social cohesion, and driving community development initiatives.

“Together, we can forge a strong alliance that will bring about positive change and progress in Ughelli. Let us work hand in hand to promote the interests of the Ughelli community, to uplift our people, and to contribute to the overall development and progress of our beloved nation, Nigeria.”
