Deacon Dele Adesina was at the meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch which held on Friday, the 6th of March, 2020 and remarkably hosted by the Egbe Amofin Abuja.
Before the marmound crowd at the meeting, the Learned SAN congratulated the Abuja Bar for the huge attendance recorded and the fruitful decisions reached; which decisions according to him will promote and advance the course of the Nigerian Bar Association.
In particular, the Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria expressed his profound gratitude, regarding the deliberations and the decisions reached by the meeting to constitute a Seven-man Committee to handle the responsibility of negotiating, resolving and bringing about the reconciliation of the different tendencies of Abuja Branch. That considering the calibre and status of members of the Committee, he believed that their task will be achieved in a record time. Recognising that, “in unity lies the strength of the Bar while divisions weaken the strength and capacity of the Bar”, Mr. Adesina enjoined the different tendencies to co-operate with the Committee in order to bring about a united, strong and purposeful Bar.
Not willing to let the cat out of the bag, Mr. Adesina said that he is an aspirant for the Office of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association in the forthcoming July Election. He promised to return to the Branch “when aspiration translates into candidacy”.
Mr. Adesina was also present at the Young Lawyers Forum tagged “One for the Road”. In his extensive interactive session with the Young Lawyers, Mr. Adesina enjoined them to go for everything legitimately possible that will make them better lawyers and better citizens in their life. Stressing that, success is by choice and that life itself is a race, he assured the Young Lawyers that they are capable of succeeding in the Profession once they have the necessary determination to succeed.
Thereafter, he regaled the Young Lawyers on his experiences as a Young Lawyer in the 80’s and some of the decisions he took and why he took them at critical points of his life. He emphasised the significance of mentoring, having a definite vision in the Profession in particular and in life in general, and the need for a clear mission to accomplishing their vision in the Legal Profession. He further stressed that the greatest asset in the School of Success is idea and not money and success in the Profession is not determined by how much a lawyer stashed in the bank but the positive impact made in the Profession.
The Learned Senior Advocate with his commanding reference and absolute receptive audience emphasised the need for the Young Lawyers to maintain high ethical standards both in the Profession and as a lifestyle. He concluded that a Lawyer must have values which guides and guards his or her life as he or she progresses. That success does not come in a day neither is success a destination; that when every day is a plus to the previous, one can be said to be successful.
The event ended with the Learned SAN, who bobbling with the Young Lawyers, to show them that he still “got it”.
