The Zamfara state All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it was concerned about the recent allegation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that its governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle was under investigation over the misappropriation of N70 billion.

The party said the observation followed Matawalle’s calls on the antigraft agency to investigate some persons in the presidency as well as members of the Buhari led cabinet.

The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Yusuf Idris, in a statement Monday stated this while reacting to allegation by the antigraft body of misappropriation of N70 billion by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle’s administration.

The party described the EFCC outburst against the governor as the only way to confirm that it selected who to witchhaunt and at what point, which the EFCC had always denied.

The statement further read, “The commission should have started by investigating how much Zamfara as a state received in the last four years, its workers’ monthly salary, the development indices recorded under Matawalle, including the Nigerians’ efforts in addressing armed banditry, his performance in the healthcare delivery, provision of roads and other social amenities,” the party contended.

“No doubt that the EFCC under Abdurrashid Bawa has been trying to find reasons to embarrass the Zamfara governor and when it could not, it tried to collect money from him, when this also failed and against the backgrounds of the calls made by the governor for the EFCC to expose the people in the outgoing Buhari government who have spoiled the good image of the president, the EFCC was quick to come against him as directed by their godfathers and sponsors”, the statement read.

“However, Governor Matawalle was also quick to make stunning revelations against the Chairman of the commission, Abdurrashid Bawa”.

“As Nigerians, we have the right to know the reactions of Mr. Bawa on this and call for the setting up of an investigative panel against Bawa who should also come with a defence”.

“We will anxiously be waiting and we are confident that even if the Buhari government does not do this for want of time, incoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will do it”.

The party pointed out that it would remain solidly behind Governor Matawalle.
