Zamfara State Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle has engaged the services of lawyers to defend the Gusau-based cleric Alaramma Ibrahim Ibrahim in the court case in Saudi Arabia which could attract death sentence.

The Governor also dispatched his Commissioner for Special Duties, and the Special Adviser on Judicial Matters to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to monitor the court proceedings coming up today, a statement by his media aide Zailani Bappah has said.

Ibrahim, an Islamic cleric, was wrongly arrested in Saudi Arabia and arraigned before the court, but could not sufficiently prove his case due to lack of a lawyer.

He was earlier cleared by two lower courts in Jedda of Saudi Arabia for lack of evidence on the part of the prosecution.

However, the prosecution appealed against him in Mecca where he was expected to have a lawyer or risk execution.

Following the intervention of the Nigerian Government, the case was adjourned which gave room for Governor Matawalle’s intervention.
