The recently-elected President of the Law Society of Kenya (that country’s equivalent of the Nigerian Bar Association) Eric Theuri, is billed to deliver the Keynote Speech at this year’s Annual Law Dinner of the NBA Lagos Branch, billed to hold on December 9, 2022.
The immediate past President of the LSK’s Branch in Nairobi (the Kenyan capital) the 43-year old Mr. Theuri gained national prominence for leading the LSK in a successful application to submit an amicus brief to the Kenyan Supreme Court in the most recent election petition brought by veteran opposition presidential candidate, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Himself a past victim of post-election violence in which his family’s property was destroyed, Theuri knows a thing or two about the potency of elections in a democracy, and their impact (positive or otherwise) on national unity in an ethnically diverse polity.
As Nigeria prepares to embark on elections in 2023, Theuri’s insightful views on this subject – and the desired role of lawyers, from the perspective of the LSK – are eagerly anticipated.
