The immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Olumide Akpata celebrated his 50th birthday in far away Mauritius, on the 7th of October, 2022, five days after he got married to his heartthrob, Osayamon Michelle May Ogbebor on the 2nd of October, 2022, at a lavish and exclusive nuptial on the beautiful island of Belle Mare, Mauritius.
The wedding was held at the Notre Dame de Bon Secours, Catholic Church, Trou D’Eau Douce, Mauritius. The beautiful Catholic church was built in 1990 in the peaceful village of Trou D’Eau Douce. Its architectural beauty will take your breath away. The wedding reception was held at the LongBeach, A Sun Resort Mauritius Quatre-Cocos, East Coast, Mauritius.
Everyone had a wonderful time at the resort; the celebrant was the perfect host as he went round the tables personally chatting with his guests and seeing to it that they were all feted. Guests enjoyed the rich cuisine of the Mauritian people as well as traditional Nigerian dishes. The celebrant ensured to have a Nigerian chef and her crew in attendance and they delivered a variety of Nigerian dishes. Indeed while enjoying the luxury and ambience of the Island, all attendees had a taste of home.
After the brunch, guests retired to their hotels for a brief rest and then proceeded to the LongBeach Resort Club at 7pm where, together with the celebrant and his lovely wife, Osayamon Michelle Akpata, they partied till the wee hours of the morning. There was no dull moment as guests were thrilled by old school jams and Nigerian guest artiste, Wande Coal who was flown in to Mauritius just for the 50th birthday celebrations.
At the party, several tributes were taken in honour of the celebrant and for his wellbeing and prosperity.
In attendance at the wedding and 50th party were friends and family of the celebrant and his bride, Osayamon.
Several senior members of the Bar were also in attendance led by Senior George Etomi, Past NBA President, Augustine Alegeh, SAN, Mr. Kayode Adeluola, SAN. Other bar men in attendance were: Mr. Tobenna Erojikwe, Chair, NBA-ICLE/NBA AGC 2022 TCCP Chair, Mr. Alex Mouka and Mr. Yemi Akangbe, past Chairmen, NBA Lagos Branch and current Chairman of the Branch, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna.
Members of the Executive Committee NBA NEC 2020-2022 also turned up to celebrate their President. Mr. Omubo Victor Frank-Briggs, 3rd Vice President and past Chairman, NBA Port Harcourt branch, Mrs. Mercy Ijato Agada, erstwhile Treasurer, Mr. Ralph Nnamdi Anagor, past Financial Secretary, Dr. Rapulu Nduka, past Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ferdinand Naza, past Asst Publicity Secretary and past Acting General Secretary, Uchenna Nwadialo all turned up to rejoice with and celebrate their friend and boss.
Ms Anne Uruegi Agi, space law guru and Chief Rapporteur of the NBA was also in attendance at the wedding and the 50th birthday.
Partners and staff of the celebrant’s law firm, Templars, were not left out of the joyous celebrations as they turned up in full for their friend and partner.
Olumide Akpata was born on 7 October, 1972. He had his early education in Warri, Delta State and thereafter attended King’s College, Lagos from where he proceeded to study Law at the University of Benin (UNIBEN). He graduated from UNIBEN in 1992, and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar on 15 December, 1993. He was the President of the Nigerian Bar Association from 2020 to 2022.
