The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Electoral Reforms Committee has called on members of the Association for inputs towards the reform of the electoral practices of the NBA.
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN had earlier inaugurated the Electoral Reform Committee, in a bid to further improve electoral practices in the NBA.
In a notice, the National Assistant Publicity Secretary, Charles Olawale Ajiboye FIMC, made it known that the call placed by the Committee was in furtherance of its mandates.
According to the notice, the call for input was to NBA Branches (through their chairmen), members of the NBA, stakeholders and interest groups in the legal profession, and the input was to be in form of memoranda.
Accordingly, all memoranda are expected to be submitted to focus on the underlisted matters and any other matters connected thereto, namely:
1. Identify forms and avenues for incurring excessive expenditure by Aspirants/Candidates in NBA elections;
2. Identify unethical and unprofessional electoral practices by Aspirants/Candidates and members of the Bar during electioneering campaigns;
3. Make suggestions/recommendations on ways and means of eradicating excessive expenditure, inducements and/or other unwholesome practices during NBA electioneering campaigns;
4. Make any further representations relevant to the terms of reference (TOR) of this Committee.
The notice established that all memoranda must be concise and straight to the point, in 14-point font size format with double line spacing and a maximum of five (5) pages.
All Memoranda are expected to be addressed to the Secretary of the electoral reform committee and should be submitted only by e-mail to: electoralreform22@nigerianbar.org.ng on or before Friday, 14th October, 2022.
Olawale made it known that members are encouraged to participate actively and support the committee in this all important task.
