In the essence of women’s participation in mediation, you do not have to play masculine to be a strong woman – Mary Elizabeth

Today, the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) joins hands with women across the globe to celebrate International Women’s Day under the theme “Gender equality today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”

Over time, women are known to play crucial roles in the social, economic, cultural, and political developments and achievements of our society. They are the foundation of the home, caring for, and lending strength to their partners and children.

Therefore, gender equality “does not mean that women and men will become the same, but that women’s and men’s rights, responsibilities and opportunities will not depend on whether they are born male or female.” Gender equity is about fairness of treatment for women and men, according to their respective needs. This may include equal treatment or treatment that is different, but is considered equivalent in terms of rights, benefits, obligations, and opportunities.

As an institution committed to advocating the use of Mediation, and other dispute resolution methods, we value the strength, determination and courage of women everywhere, who at their core, are remarkable peacebuilders. We acknowledge the invaluable efforts of our staff, our leaders, and our members, who make up half our membership body.

Happy International Women’s Day.
