– A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has stopped the EFCC from trying ex-customs boss, Abdullahi Inde Dikko – The court ruled that there is an agreement between Dikko and the federal government that he will refund $8 million

– The presiding judge said Dikko had continued to fulfil that promise For agreeing to refund the sum of $8 million to the federal government, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, November 25, stopped the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from trying Abdullahi Inde Dikko, a former comptroller-general of Customs.

Dikko is facing issues of alleged financial infractions which he was claimed to have committed while heading the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS). The court, it was learnt, said the EFCC cannot prosecute Dikko because he has an agreement with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) as well as the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS) that he would refund $8 million.

The Nation reports that the presiding judge ruled that the former Customs boss had kept his promise by refunding 1,576,000,000 and more to the federal government through the EFCC funds recovery account in the Central Bank of Nigeria,

The judge, therefore, insisted that Dikko should not be tried by the EFCC or any other anti-graft agency in the country over the same alleged crime. it was earlier reported that Abdullahi Dikko was billed to face arraignment at a Federal High Court in Abuja with two others for allegedly stealing over N1 billion.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) was said to have planned to bring charges against Dikko and the other defendants in a suit with number FHC/ABJ/CR/21/2019-FRN v Abdullahi Inde Dikko & Ors. The case and its trial was to be presided over by Justice Lucia Ojukwu of Court 7, Abuja Federal High Court.
