Aman, identified as Peter Ajayi, aged 32, on Sunday jumped into the Asa River in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The river is behind All Saints Anglican Church, Taiwo Isale Road in Ilorin, which is in Nigeria’s North Central region.

SaharaReporters gathered that Peter was depressed and had expressed frustration with the life he was living before he allegedly committed suicide.

The state fire service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, said the incident occurred at about 11:45 a.m.

Adekunle further revealed that Peter ran to the riverside behind the church, took off his slippers, and jumped into the river.

The fire service announced that the search for Peter’s body had begun on Sunday and extended to the outskirts of Ilorin, Shao town in the Moro Local Government Area of the state. But all efforts to recover his body had failed at the time of filing this report.

He, however, said the relentless search would continue until the fire service recovered the body.

It was also reported in August that a 17-year-old student of Offa Grammar School, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, identified as Adegoke Adeyemi, committed suicide as a result of his failure to gain promotion to the next class in his school.

Adegoke, who was found hanging on a tree, according to police sources, decided to take his life because of his failure to pass his promotion examination from SS1 to SS2.

The sources said that the Senior Secondary School student was asked to repeat the class but was ashamed and hence decided to take his life.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the death of the teenager in a statement, saying, “The victim who was later identified as Adegoke Adeyemi ‘M’ aged 17 years, a student of Offa grammar school, who was believed to have hanged himself as a result of his failure to pass his promotion examination from SS1 to SS 2, which necessitated his being asked to repeat the class.”
