The Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs Grace Akpabio on Friday disclosed that about 1,313 corps members had completed the one year mandatory service to their fatherland in the state.

The coordinator, however, said 18 of the number were sanctioned for disobeying the rules and regulations of the corps.

She stated this in her farewell address to the 2018 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 2) corps members who were discharged from the national service.

In her message sent through the assistant directors in all the local government areas of the state, Akpabio said out of the corps members that received certificates of national service, three got state honour awards and 15 collected state coordinator’s commendation certificates.

She said, “However, services of four recalcitrant corps members were extended for not measuring up to the required standard at their places of primary assignment and 14 who absconded the service were recommended for remobilisation subject to approval of the Directorate Headquarters, Abuja.”

The NYSC boss urged outgoing corps members to use the training acquired during service to “advance their cause for better today and guaranteed tomorrow.”

She also admonished them to be independent and earn the respect of society and not be burden to their respective families.

“I want you to face tomorrow with zeal and determination to succeed in whatever capacity you may choose to make a decent living. Tap the several opportunities that abound in the country and become the next generation of entrepreneurs and successful business moguls,” Akpabio charged.
