The bill, titled Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Ogun State (SB 345, 2024) was sponsored by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, representing Ogun West.

It aims to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro into a full-fledged University of Technology.
This is the second time the Senate has passed this bill. It was initially approved by the 9th Senate but did not receive concurrence from the House of Representatives or Presidential assent before the end of that legislative session.

The bill, now passed under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, will proceed to the House of Representatives for concurrence.

Upon approval, it will be sent to the President for final assent, bringing the long-awaited university closer to becoming a reality for Ogun Westerners.

Senator Adeola Yayi, a staunch advocate for educational development in Ogun West, has supported numerous initiatives to advance education in the region.

His efforts include scholarship and bursary programs, upgrading school infrastructure, and facilitating high-level information technology training for the youth.

With this second passage by the Senate, the bill appears poised to complete the legislative process and make the dream of a Federal University of Technology in Ilaro a reality.
