The Nigerian Army has expressed shock over the video circulating on social media claiming that the troops deployed to Plateau are supporting a particular group against the other
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director, Defence Information, in a statement on Thursday, described the video made by the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Mangu Chapter, Reverend Timothy Daluk, as malicious, saying it was aimed at maligning military personnel deployed to address the security challenges in the Mangu general area.
The statement said it was deeply disturbing that a religious leader expected to demonstrate high levels of moral judgement and truthfulness, had resorted to spreading falsehoods about the military and its personnel.
“We want to reiterate that the military remains neutral, focused, professional and committed to its constitutional role of protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens,” it said.
According to the statement, the troops have carried out their duties professionally and in accordance with the rules of engagement, adding that they have successfully arrested criminals involved in looting and burning of properties, as well as recovered weapons
It called on Nigerians to support the ongoing military operations aimed at decimating non-state actors operating in troubled areas of the State, adding that it would not be distracted by baseless accusations, just as it remained steadfast in their commitment to restoring peace and security.
It cautioned individuals involved in making malicious comments against the military to cease from such acts, and warned that any person found spreading falsehoods will face constitutional redress, regardless of their status in society.
