The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called on the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, to intervene in an alleged case of sexual harassment involving the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Sunday Fasina.

SSANU’s National President, Comrade Muhammad Haruna, made the appeal on Thursday during a visit to the minister.

He urged swift action to prevent any form of victimisation against Engineer Adebayo Folashade, who is at the centre of the allegations, and to ensure that justice prevails.

SSANU called on the minister to urgently address the issue to protect the victim from further harassment and to maintain peace within the university.

In response, Alausa assured the SSANU leadership that he would look into the matter, reaffirming his commitment to improving the education sector and addressing concerns affecting university staff.

Newsmen earlier reported that the Western Zone of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) had expressed dissatisfaction with the terms of reference for the probe panel established by the Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against Fasina.

SSANU called for the suspension of the Vice-Chancellor, as well as the Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Ifeoma Ndukwu, and other members of the panel, including Mr. Olusola Taiwo and Prof. Ajiboye Abiodun.

The association alleged that all six members of the panel lack the moral and ethical competence to sit on the committee, claiming their roles have been technically and vicariously compromised in the matter.

Previously, Newsmen reported that the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti has been accused of forming a nine-member committee to target Adebayo, who alleged inappropriate advances by Vice-Chancellor Fasina.

A source told Newsmen on Monday that Fasina ought to have been suspended.

He said, “How can he remain in office while being investigated? The panel was set up as tool for witch-hunt.”

The source stated that the Federal Ministry of Education should have set up the committee independent of the FUOYE council.

The source, speaking anonymously to SaharaReporters, explained that the victim has been invited to appear before the investigative committee on the alleged case of sexual harassment against the school vice-chancellor, Fasina.
The source added that they instructed Adebayo to bring all necessary documents to defend herself before the committee.
