Popular activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has harshly criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following the announcement of his son Jordan’s graduation from the Queen Mary University of London, UK, with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree.
Wike shared the news on Tuesday via his official Facebook page, which sparked widespread conversation among Nigerians. Many expressed discontent, accusing politicians of undermining the education system in Nigeria while sending their children abroad to study.
In response to Wike’s post, Sowore took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to blast the former Rivers State Governor. Sowore pointed out that despite holding numerous influential positions, including two terms as local government chairman, four years as Minister of Education, and two terms as Governor of Rivers State, Wike failed to establish quality education facilities in Nigeria to provide for his son’s future.
Sowore remarked, “Nyesom Wike served as local government chairman for two terms, Minister of Education for four years, and Governor of Rivers State for two terms, totaling eight years. He is currently the FCT Minister, yet he sends his children to schools in the UK after the destruction of education in Nigeria, with funds stolen from the masses.”
Sowore’s comments highlight a growing frustration with political leaders who, according to critics, prioritize the education of their children abroad while neglecting the system in their own country.
