The police, on Monday, arraigned three friends before a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly beating up a man.
The police charged David Emmanuel, Ojeifo Donald and Elijah Henry with three counts of joint act, assault and mischief.
The Prosecution Counsel, Peter Ejike, told the court that one Egba Michael of Health Trust Pharmacy, Wuse II, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse Zone 3 Divisional Police Headquarters on June 5.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendants conspired, attacked and beat up Michael without any provocation and that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 265 and 327 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Abdulmajid Oniyangi admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
He said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must provide means of livelihood to be verified by the court’s officials and adjourned the case to June 9, for the police to produce the complainant who was absent in court. (NAN)
